California Water-Supply Shortage

The severity of California’s water-supply shortage continues to worsen, as local providers learned in April, they will receive far less water in the coming year. Due to several years of below-average precipitation and environmental restrictions on water pumping from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) will be limiting the supply by approximately 15 percent leaving many local water providers the need to meet customer demand with the reduced supply.

Moulton Niguel Water District (MNWD) has had to enact a Water Supply Response Level 2 as discussed in MNWD’s Water Conservation Program, which is a water reduction up to 20%. The most significant impact of this reduction is that residential and commercial customers can only water three days per week based upon a watering schedule determined by the District’s General Manager.

MNWD will host an informal Water Conservation meeting on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the District’s Main Office located at 27500 La Paz Road, Laguna Niguel. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss any questions or concerns regarding MNWD’s Water Conservation Program, the 12 Mandatory Water Conservation Rules, and moving to a Water Supply Response Level 2.
